Utica, NY - The Utica College women's tennis team is slated for its last match of the year, as it travels to take on the Nazareth Golden Flyers this Saturday at 1 p.m.
Coming In Hot: The Utica College Women's Tennis team topped the Hartwick Hawks 6-3 on Sunday afternoon for its third win of the year and its first in the Empire 8. Freshmen
Morgan Willis (Queensbury, NY/Queensbury) and
Camryn Sullivan (Camden, NY/Camden), along with senior
Bianca Bockhaus (Shenorock, NY/Somers) junior
Elma Selimovic (Utica, NY/T.R. Proctor), all posted singles victories to give the Pioneers a 4-2 lead heading into doubles. Senior
Madeline McIlnay (York, PA/York Suburban) and Sullivan took second doubles by a score of 8-6, while Bockhaus and Selimovic followed suit with a convincing 8-0 win in third doubles to secure the victory. The Pioneers advance to 3-8 on the season with this win, and will close out the year this Saturday on the road at Nazareth College with a 1 p.m. start.
Where There's a Willis, There's a Way: Freshman
Morgan Willis (Queensbury, NY/Queensbury) of the Utica College women's tennis team was named the UC Female Athlete of the Week on Monday for her near-perfect performance over the last few weeks.Willis has been the most impressive member of the women's tennis team so far this year, winning a team-high five matches and dropping only two. She is the sole Pioneer to win her singles match in the Oswego, Sage, Medaille and Hartwick matches. The Queensbury, New York native also notched a doubles victory against Delhi with
Camryn Sullivan (Camden, NY/Camden) as her partner.
Scouting Nazareth: The Golden Flyers are 4-3 this year, and they have won four of their last five heading into the Utica matchup. If history is any indication, Nazareth has the advantage, as it is currently 12-0 all-time against the Pioneers.
