Utica, NY - The Utica College women's volleyball team dropped its match against Elmira on Saturday afternoon by a score of 3-0 to fall to 2-21 on the year.
Despite a late comeback, the Pioneers lost the first set by a score of 25-18. The Golden Flyers won the second set 25-14, and then took the third set by a score of 25-20 to secure the victory.
Junior Meaghan Romaguera (Stone Ridge, NY/Rondout) led the Pioneers across the board, posting team-highs in both kills with five and digs with 14. Sophomore Rosemarie Fesko (Goshen, NY/Central) also had a stand-out performance, leading the team in both aces with two and blocks with four. Freshman Brenna Stanton (Chittenango, NY/Chittenango) notched the team-high in assists, recording 11 on the afternoon.
Freshman Eleanor Cepiel (West Sand Lake, NY/Academy of Holy Names) also had an all-around impressive match with seven digs, seven assists and two aces.
Utica heads back on the road to start its three-game road trip against cross-town rival SUNY Poly this Thursday at 7 p.m.
