UTICA, NY – The Utica College women's soccer team will look to stay undefeated in conference play, as they host Hartwick College this Saturday at 12 noon.
LAST TIME OUT: The Pioneers are coming off their sixth shutout victory last Saturday with a 2-0 conference win over the Sage Gators. This moves their record to 7-2 on the year, leaving Utica atop the Empire 8 Conference.
HISTORY IN THE MAKING: The last time this Utica team started the year off 7-2 was back in 2008. A win over Hartwick College this weekend would be a historic one, as the Pioneers have never won eight games through their first 10 matchups.
LEADING THE WAY: Senior
Mikayla Blumenstock (Poland, NY/Poland) leads this Pioneers team in nearly every category as she continues to display her dominance on the pitch. She is ranked second in the conference in shots with 33 and leads the conference in goals with 10. Blumenstock also leads the conference with 21 points on the year. Last season, Blumenstock led the team with 12 goals. Through nine games, she already has 10 goals, three shy from setting a new single-season career high.
SAVING THE DAY: Senior
Allison Wagner (Canandaigua, NY/Canandaigua Academy) continues her stellar play in the net, as she boasts an impressive six shutouts so far in 2019. She looks to stay hot as she leads this conference in saves with 82 and is ranked fifth in the country in this category as well. In 2017, she had 157 saves, and through 10 games this year, she is more than halfway to setting a new personal single-season record.
WHO TO WATCH: Junior
Summer Gagnon (Manchester, NH/Manchester) and freshman
Eliza Ericson (Beacon, NY/Beacon) look to continue their assist streak, as they lead the team with three assists each. Junior
Kierra Caissey (Gardner, MA/Gardner) will look to capitalize on those assists from both Gagnon and Ericson, as she's just under Blumenstock with six goals on the year.
Carly Craft (Ellenville, NY/Ellenville),
Sydney Cook (Waterville, NY/Waterville) and
Jenna Keeman (Douglas, MA/Douglas ) have all recorded at least one goal this year.
SCOUTING HARTWICK: The Hawks are 6-2-1 on the year and are led by junior Taylor Reed, who showcases an impressive five-goal, 10-point stat line. Junior Gabrielle Kreppein and sophomore Julia Collado both share two goals each.
SHARED HISTORY: The Pioneers have faced the Hawks 19 times, and have recorded six wins over this time span. Their last win was back in 2018, shutting out Hartwick by a final of 2-0. Utica has two other shutout victories over the Hawks dating back to 2004 and 2005.
LOOKING AHEAD: The Pioneers will host SUNY Poly this Wednesday at Charles A. Gaetano Stadium in a non-conference matchup. Game time is slated for 7:00 p.m.
