Utica, NY - The Utica College women's tennis team is slated for an Empire 8 matchup against Hartwick on Sunday at 1 p.m. to culminate its four-game home stand.
Coming In Hot:Â The Utica College women's tennis team topped the SUNY Delhi Broncos by a score of 8-1 to notch its second win of the season last Wednesday. The Pioneers took all six singles matches, with victories from seniors
Madeline McIlnay and
Bianca Bockhaus, freshmen
Morgan Willis (Queensbury, NY/Queensbury),
Camryn Sullivan and
Emily DePasquale (Holland Patent, NY/Holland Patent), as well as junior
Elma Selimovic. UC also won two of the three singles matches, with Willis and Sullivan taking second singles and Selimovic and Depasquale taking third singles. This marked the Pioneers' second win of the year over Delhi, as they advanced to 2-5 thus far in 2019.
Where There's a Willis, There's a Way: Freshman
Morgan Willis (Queensbury, NY/Queensbury) has been very impressive so far this season, notching her first collegiate win against SUNY Oswego two weeks ago in second singles. Willis is also the only Pioneer to notch wins in her last four matches.
Scouting Hartwick: The Hawks enter this matchup with an 1-8 overall record, with their sole win coming in a convincing 8-1 decision over Delhi in the third match of the season. Hartwick is a relatively young team this year, rostering only one junior and senior with all the other players being underclassmen.
Up Next: The Pioneers finish out their season on the road against Nazareth. This match is slated for a 1 p.m. start on Saturday, October 12.
