Volleyball Drops Tri-match with Kings, MCLA

UTICA, NY- The Utica College volleyball team dropped both games of a non-conference tri-match on Saturday as it fell to Kings College and the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts both by 3-0 scores.
 
Utica 0, Kings 3- Game One Final
The first set was all Kings as the Monarchs cruised to a 25-9 win.  The Pioneers put up a fight in the second set, but fell 25-20.  Trailing 24-15 in the third set, Utica rattled off seven straight points, but Kings was finally able to score the clinched to take the match 3-0. 
 
Freshman Eleanor Cepiel (West Sand Lake, NY/Academy of Holy Names) led the way with a game-high 12 kills, while Meaghan Romaguera (Stone Ridge, NY/Rondout) and Rosemarie Fesko (Goshen, NY/Central) each had four kills to pace the Pioneers.  Freshman Brenna Stanton (Chittenango, NY/Chittenango) totaled 15 a season-high 15 assists to aid the offense.
 
Defensively, freshman Taylor Crowley (Washington Township, NJ/Washington Township) led UC with nine digs, while Romaguera and Cepiel chipped in with six apiece.  Kurstan Martin (Owego, NY/Tioga) also tallied the lone block for Utica.
 
Utica 0, MCLA 3- Game Two Final
The Trailblazers used five straight points in the third set to overcome a 21-20 deficit and win the match in straight sets.  
 
Meaghan Romaguera (Stone Ridge, NY/Rondout) led the UC offense with seven kills and she also added a team-best two service aces.  Freshmen Eleanor Cepiel (West Sand Lake, NY/Academy of Holy Names) and Alicja Swiechowska (Carmel, NY/Carmel) each had five kills in the second match of the day. Cepiel and Brenna Stanton (Chittenango, NY/Chittenango) tied for the team-lead with 10 assists each to help out.
 
On the defensive side, freshman Cameron Boehlert (Utica, NY/Whitesboro ) had a team-high 14 digs, while Cepiel had 11 digs.  Rosemarie Fesko (Goshen, NY/Central) added six digs to her credit in the loss. 
 
During the game, the Pioneers also raised $500 to donate to the Susan G. Komen Foundation.  
 
Utica has nearly a week off before returning to action on Friday at Hartwick. Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
