Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Blumenstock's Hat trick Guides Utica Past SUNY Poly

UTICA, NY- The Utica College women's soccer team got back on track Wednesday as it downed visiting SUNY Poly 3-0 in non-conference action.  Senior Mikayla Blumenstock (Poland, NY/Poland) had all three goals for Utica in the win.

The Pioneers improve to 8-3 on the year, marking their best record through 11 games since 2005, when UC was also 8-3 through its first 11 games.  Utica has also shutout its opponents three times in the last four outings.  The Pioneers will look to carry their momentum into an E8 match up at Alfred on Saturday.  Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m.

The Pioneers got on the board just past the half-hour mark as Blumenstock netted her first of the day at 30:35 of the first half.  Shortly before the goal, UC was awarded a penalty kick.  Blumenstock lined up to take it and rifled a shot off the crossbar that somehow managed to stay out of the goal.  The senior did not miss on her second opportunity, however as she buried a header off the ensuing corner kick to give Utica a 1-0 lead.  Freshman Eliza Ericson (Beacon, NY/Beacon) was credited with an assist on the play.

The score remained the same until the 63rd minute as Blumenstock beat five Wildcat defenders and was able to place a ball into the far right corner of the net for her second of the day and 12th of the season.

Blumenstock put the finishing touch on the game at 71:11 when she netted her conference-leading 13th goal of the year off a pass from junior Kayla Longo (Schenectady, NY/Schalmont).   Blumenstock now has 27 points on the year, matching her total from last season, which is currently second on the College's single-season point scoring list.  Her 13 goals this year are also now second most all-time in a single season.

Sophomore Emily Hill (Watertown, CT/Watertown) made six saves in the win to pick up her first shutout of the season.  Felicia Bianca and M'Kenzie Bradshaw combined for six saves in net for SUNY Poly.
