WILKES-BARRE, PA- Eight Different players scored as the Utica college women's hockey team cruised to an 11-2 win over host Kings College in UCHC Conference action Friday evening. Freshman
Maggie Rylott (Cobourg, Ontario/West Northumberland) had a breakout game as she netted her first collegiate hat trick in the win.
Rylott opened the scoring at 8:45 of the first period as she netted her first career goal off assists from senior
Kyra Borsoi (Brossard, Quebec/Holderness) and sophomore
Sirena Fitzery (Hamburg, NY/Buffalo Bisons).
The Pioneers took a two-goal lead at 17:39 when
Georgiana Santullo (Woburn, MA/Boston Shamrocks/Woburn High School) found the back of the net for her first of the year. Freshman
Erica Sloan (Potsdam, NY/St. Lawrence Steel) was credited with an assist on the play.
Utica extended the lead at 7:43 of the second period when
Shae Counts (Irondale, CO/Alaska Allstars) buried her first career goal off an assist from
Ricki Haab (Stowe, VT/Stowe). UC did not let up as freshman
Morgan Leib (Farmington Hills, MI/Little Caesars) put in her second of the year at 12:03, assisted by Haab and Counts.
The Monarchs finally got on the board at 13:57 of the second stanza as Ali Noeding netted an unassisted goal on the power play for her first of the season. The Pioneers struck right back however as Rylott potted her second of the day just 36 seconds later to regain the four-goal cushion.
Freshman
Erica Sloan (Potsdam, NY/St. Lawrence Steel) capped off the scoring for the period with her third goal in the last two games as she buried a feed from Santullo and Fitzery.
The Pioneers tacked on five more scores in the third period as Rylott completed the hat trick and Sloan added her second of the game.
Carolyn Whitney (Raleigh, NC/Milbrook School),
Olivia Hirschy (Fort Wayne, IN/Culver Academies), and
Ricki Haab (Stowe, VT/Stowe) also scored in the final frame to give UC the convincing victory.
Sophomore
Savannah Gutierrez (Huntington Beach, CA/Anaheim Lady Ducks) finished with 21 saves for her first win of the season, while Hannah Bowers and Kiva Sierra Stoltz combined for 32 saves for Kings.
The Pioneers (2-1, 2-0 UCHC) return to action Saturday as they face Wilkes University. Game time is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
