Women's Basketball Notches Road Win Over Alfred State

Alfred, NY - The Utica College women's basketball team advanced to 6-3 with a road win over the Alfred State Pioneers by a score of 74-66 Tuesday night.

UC set the tone early in this one, jumping out to a big 18-2 lead in the first six minutes of this contest. Alfred State settled down after a slow start, as the team was able to work its way all the way back to take a 28-27 lead with 3:51 left to play in the half. Both teams traded baskets for the remainder of the second quarter, and UC went into halftime trailing 35-33.

Sophomore forward Sydney Przygoda (Freehold, NJ/Freehold) knocked down a bucket in the paint to start the second half, evening the score at 35 a piece. Alfred State responded with layup of its own, which was followed by a Petrina DeMarco (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro) 3-pointer to give Utica a 38-37 lead. This marked the last time Alfred State was ahead, as UC built on this lead for the remainder of the game to secure a victory.

Utica's backcourt had one of its best performances of the season.

Senior guard Nicolette Conkin (Los Altos, CA/Homestead) tabbed a 21-point, nine-assist, five-rebound, four-steal statline. Every category outside of rebounds marked a game-high. This is Conkin's third highest-scoring game of the season, as she posted 28 and 23-point showings against SUNY Potsdam and SUNY Oneonta, respectively.

Junior guard Brigid Johndrow (Bristol, CT/St. Paul Catholic) notched her first double-double of the season, finishing with 14 points and a team-high 11 rebounds. Junior guard Kimberly Soriano (Queens, NY/Monsignor McClancy Memorial) matched Johndrow with 11 boards while also adding five points in the process.

DeMarco knocked down three 3-pointers en route to matching her season-high of 15 points. The Whitesboro High School alum etched 15-point games against SUNY Delhi and SUNY Oneonta this season as well.

Przygoda continued her stellar 2019-20 campaign, pouring in 15 points on 6-of-10 shooting from the field. She also added seven rebounds.

UC women's basketball will return home this Saturday for a non-conference matchup against Morrisville State at 11 a.m.
