UTICA, NY – The Utica College women's hockey team will embark on a journey to the green mountain state of Vermont on Saturday to face nationally ranked No. 2Middlebury College in a non-conference matchup. The puck is set to drop at 3 p.m.
LAST TIME OUT: The 3-4 Pioneers were set to host Castleton University in a conference matchup last Sunday, but due to weather was postponed. Utica dropped its previous outing against Amherst College by a final score 7-1 last Saturday. Freshman forward
Erica Sloan (Potsdam, NY/St. Lawrence Steel) netted the only goal for the Pioneers in the contest.
Holly Silva (Boston, MA/Worcester Academy) and
Georgiana Santullo (Woburn, MA/Boston Shamrocks/Woburn High School) were both credited with the assist. Sophomore goalie
Savannah Gutierrez (Huntington Beach, CA/Anaheim Lady Ducks) finished the contest with a career-high 46 saves.
TEAM LEADERS: The Pioneers are filled with lots of young talent, including Sloan, who leads the team in goals (five) and points (nine). Santullo leads the team with five assists on the year. Goalies
Bria Reilly (Hamden, CT/Brewster Academy) and Savanna Gutierrez have combined for 201 total saves this year. Both have recorded at least 100 saves so far.
UCHC LEADERS: Erica Sloan (Potsdam, NY/St. Lawrence Steel) is tied for fifth in the nation in scoring amongst freshmen with 1.29 points per game.
Bria Reilly (Hamden, CT/Brewster Academy) is ranked seventh in the UCHC in goals against average, allowing 2.41 per game.
TEAM CONTRIBUTORS: 10 Pioneers have scored at least one goal so far this season while 12 Pioneers have recorded at least one assist.
Carolyn Whitney (Raleigh, NC/Milbrook School) leads the team with 30 shots through seven games. She is currently averaging 4.3 shots per game. Whitney has two game-winning goals so far, which ties her for seventh nationally.
SCOUTING MIDDLEBURY: The Panthers are up to No. 2 in the latest USCHO.com national poll after starting the year with a 4-0-2 mark. Middlebury is led by Madie Leidt, who has four goals on the year. The Panthers have outscored their opponents 13-3.
UP NEXT: The Pioneers return home on Tuesday to host Castleton University. Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
