Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Soriano, Miller Have Strong Performances In Loss To Hamilton

CLINTON, NY - The Utica College women's basketball team was handed a non-conference defeat on Monday. Kimberly Soriano (Queens, NY/Monsignor McClancy Memorial) lit up the scoreboard by tying a career best with 17 points, but Hamilton College shot 50 percent from the field, and 47 percent from beyond the arc as Utica fell to the Continentals by a score of 92-53 at the Margaret Bundy Scott Fieldhouse in Clinton, NY.

Utica falls to 5-3, and will look to get back in the win column with a Tuesday non-conference clash at Alfred State. That game was rescheduled from Monday, December 2nd due to the Thanksgiving Weekend storm. Hamilton is now 7-1 on the season.

Utica made a total of nine three point field goals in the game for their third highest total of the campaign. The team has made seven or more three pointers in all eight games it has played. The Pioneers also tied their best foul shooting percentage performance of the season as they converted 10-of-12 for an 83.3 percent rate. The team shot 37.8 percent from the field.

Soriano's 17 points included five made three point baskets. She also drained five from beyond the arc in the other 17 point game in her career, a game against Hartwick played on January 22nd, 2019. She also led the team with 30 minutes played on the floor.

On the defensive end, freshman center Kristine Miller (Red Hook, NY/Red Hook) had an impressive five blocks. No Pioneer has done that in a single game in at least the last eight seasons.

Local product Petrina DeMarco (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro) poured in a total of nine points for the contest, with all of it coming on three point field goals. Brigid Johndrow (Bristol, CT/St. Paul Catholic) had an efficient night shooting the ball with a 3-of-4 performance from the field and a total of eight points.

Hamilton rolled out to a 28-12 advantage after one quarter of play, and increased its advantage by an additional fourteen points in the second quarter, and another ten in the third quarter. The Pioneers had the advantage in the fourth quarter by a 17-16 margin.

After Tuesday's non-conference game, the Pioneers will be back on Miga Court on Saturday to take on Morrisville State.
