UC Falls to Hamilton in 9th Annual Contineer Cup

Utica, NY – The Utica College men's lacrosse team hosted Hamilton College on Monday for the 9th Annual Contineer Cup. UC was unable to keep pace with the Continentals, falling 18-5 in the contest.

Freshman Kevin Parisi (Glenwood, NY/Vernon Township) contributed on both ends of the field in the loss, recording his first collegiate goal, a team-high seven ground balls, and two caused turnovers. Dale Wagner (Elbridge, NY/Jordan Elbridge) scored two goals in the contest, while James Daniele (Pleasantville, NY/Pleasantville) and Zach Duby (Jamesville, NY/Jamesville-Dewitt) each scored one as well. Jared Smaldon (Rome, NY/Rome Free Academy) and John Avery (Pittsford, NY/Pittsford-Mendon) each made one assist.

Defensively, Nick Alexander (New Hartford, NY/New Hartford) and Tyler Crouse (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro) came up with a combined total of seven ground balls and caused four turnovers. Goalkeeper Ryan Boshart (Fayetteville, NY/Fayetteville-Manlius) made his first start of the season, making 23 saves as UC drops to 2-2 overall.

Duby drew first blood, giving Utica a 1-0 lead in the first quarter with the assist coming from Avery. The advantage would soon disappear for the Pioneers, as Hamilton would go on to score nine unanswered goals throughout the remainder of the first half. The visiting Continentals would enter the halftime break with a 9-1 lead.

UC got some offense in the third quarter, scoring three goals in the period including a man up score by Dale Wagner (Elbridge, NY/Jordan Elbridge). However, the deficit was too large for the Pioneers to mount a comeback as Hamilton would go on to retain possession of the Contineer Cup with the 13-goal victory.

Hamilton was led by Henry Hunt's four-goal performance, improving to 2-1 overall on the season. Max Scheidl got the start in net, making six saves before Seamus Fagan entered in the fourth quarter to close the game out and recorded four saves.

The Pioneers will hit the road for their next contest, travelling to face Marywood University on Wednesday at 2 p.m.
