Big Second Half Guides Utica Past Regis

 Weston, MA- The Utica College women's lacrosse team outscored host Regis College 10-3 in the second half on its way to a 16-7 win over the Pride in non-conference action Tuesday afternoon.
 
With the win, UC improves to 3-1 on the young season.  The Pioneers will turn right around to face Medaille College Wednesday morning.  Game time is scheduled for 11 a.m. at Garber Field on the campus of UMass-Amherst. 
 
The Pioneers found themselves down 4-2 just over halfway through the first half before rallying to score four straight, including two tallies with less than a minute remaining, to head into halftime with a 6-4 lead.  Utica pulled away in the second half, netting nine of the final ten goals in the game.
 
10 different players scored on the day to help pace the Pioneers.  Sophomore Lauren Wolff (Peabody, MA/Peabody) led all players with four points as she had two goals and two assists while freshman Lexi Scaccia (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro) had a team-high three goals. 
 
Hailee DuMont (Wilkes-Barre, PA/James M. Coughlin), Katie McDowell (Wynantskill, NY/Averill Park), and Kaitlynn Palmer (Verona, NY/VVS) each had two goals to their credit.  Katlyn Scarpinella (South Setauket, NY/Ward Melville), Brittany Nowak (Eden, NY/Eden), and Natalie Capriglione (New Milford, CT/New Milford) chipped in with a goal and an assist each, and Jessie Biegel (Ridge, NY/Longwood) and Noelle Capriglione (New Milford, CT/New Milford) finished with one goal apiece.  Sinead Bonner (Staten Island, NY/Curtis), Addison Green (Marcy, NY/Whitesboro), and Stephanie Husnay (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro) aided the offense with one assist each.
 
DuMont led UC with four caused turnovers and four ground balls, while Palmer also scooped up four ground balls of her own.  Scaccia was dominant in the center circle as she collected a season-high 10 draw controls. 
 
Junior Hali Vandermeulen (Walden, NY/Valley Central) finished with five saves, while her counterpart, Brittany McPherson had nine saves in the loss.  Utica was 14-of-19 in clear attempts, including 10-of-11 in the second half, and they also connected on 7-of-13 free position shots.
