Home Sweet Home; Pioneers to Host Lakers at Gaetano

UTICA, N.Y. - The Utica College men's lacrosse team returns home to Charles A. Gaetano Stadium on Wednesday at 4 p.m. to take on the Oswego State Lakers in a non-conference matchup.

Currently at .500: The Pioneers are currently 4-4 overall, with wins coming against SUNY Poly, Potsdam, Castleton and Keuka. Two of the Pioneers four losses have come by three goals or less.  14th year Head Coach Mike Parnell is now just one win shy of 90 for his career.

Last Time Out: The Pioneers were dropped by the Stevens Ducks in their Empire 8 conference opener by a score of 23-4. John Avery (Pittsford, NY/Pittsford-Mendon) had two goals on the afternoon for the Pioneers, with John Hanlon (Coconut Creek, FL/St. John Paul Academy) and Craig DiSanto (Montebello, NY/Suffern) scoring the other two goals on the afternoon. Goalies Ryan Boshart (Fayetteville, NY/Fayetteville-Manlius), Harrison Bower (Northport, NY/Kings Park) and Dylan Allen (Rome, NY/Holland Patent) combined for 14 saves.

Hardcore Hanlon: Senior John Hanlon (Coconut Creek, FL/St. John Paul Academy) currently leads the Pioneers in points with 23 on the season. His 13 assists are currently a team high, and his 10 goals currently puts him in a tie for third on the team. The Florida native now has 55 career points in the blue and orange.  His 34 career assists are just five shy of cracking the College's top 10 for career assists.

Freshman Sensations: Freshman James Daniele (Pleasantville, NY/Pleasantville) has burst onto the scene for Utica College in a big way, scoring 10 goals and 12 assists in eight games played this season, putting him second on the team with 22 points. Classmate John Avery (Pittsford, NY/Pittsford-Mendon) has also made an instant impact for the Pioneers. Avery currently ranks fourth on the team with 18 points.  His 14 goals rank second on the team.

Conference Marks: John Hanlon (Coconut Creek, FL/St. John Paul Academy) and James Daniele (Pleasantville, NY/Pleasantville) currently rank in the top 10 in the Empire 8 in assists per game: Hanlon in fifth with 1.86 assists per game, and Daniele in 10th with 1.50 assists per game. John Avery (Pittsford, NY/Pittsford-Mendon) currently sits in sixth in shots per game (8.38).

Between the Pipes: Goaltender's Ryan Boshart (Fayetteville, NY/Fayetteville-Manlius) and Harrison Bower (Northport, NY/Kings Park) have split starts in the Pioneers' eight games this season. Combined, they have allowed 96 goals, and have a combined 12.46 GAA and a .527 save percentage. Both have a 2-2 overall record.

Home Sweet Home: The Pioneers have a 2-1 record at home thus far this season, outscoring their opponents 34-30 in those three contests.

Scouting Oswego: The Lakers come into this game with a 4-1 record on the season. Bobby Emerson and Evan Hollfelder are tied for the team lead with 16 points apiece.

Looking Ahead: The Pioneers will return to Empire 8 conference action on the road against the Alfred University Saxons on Saturday, game time is scheduled for 1 p.m.
