Utica 2, U of R 10 (5 Innings)- Game One Final
After falling into a 3-0 hole after two innings, the Pioneers cut the deficit to one in the fourth inning, but a six-run outburst by the Yellowjackets in the bottom of the fifth forced the walk off run-rule victory.
Stransky was 2-for-2 in game one with a run scored, while
Jamie Miller (Boonville, NY/Adirondack) and
Jacqueline Aronin (Naugatuck, CT/Naugatuck High School) also had hits. Aronin picked up an RBI with her double in the fourth inning that scored Stransky, and freshman
Emily Joss (South Glens Falls, NY/South Glens Falls) also scored a run for Utica.
Sophomore
Gabriella Caccamo (Suffern, NY/Suffern) struck out four and allowed just four earned runs in the loss, while Rochester's Elizabeth Bourne also fanned two.
Utica 2, U of R 5- Game Two Final
Game two was a pitcher's duel for the majority of the contest as it remained scoreless through five and a half innings. University of Rochester broke the deadlock with five runs in the bottom of the sixth to take a commanding 5-0 lead.
Down to its final three outs, Utica made it interesting as the Pioneers scored two runs in the top of the seventh. With runners on first and second and the tying run at the plate with only one out, U of R's Hannah Leahy picked up a huge strikeout and then forced a ground out to end the game and preserve the win.
Jacqueline Aronin (Naugatuck, CT/Naugatuck High School),
Nicole Rice (Williamsville, NY/Williamsville South),
Sara Stransky (Miller Place, NY/Miller Place),
Hayley Fredericks (Suffern, NY/Suffern),
Megan O'Keefe (Albany, NY/Bethlehem Central), and
Madison Judge (Albany, NY/Colonie) each had one hit in game two. O'Keefe and
Emma Rousseau (Litchfield, NH/Campbell) scored Utica's two runs.
Alyssa Samborin (Schenectady, NY/Mohonasen) allowed just five hits in five innings of work as she shouldered the loss.
