ROCHESTER, NY- The Utica College women's lacrosse team ran into some stiff competition as it fell to nationally ranked No. 16 St. John Fisher College, 16-4, in Empire 8 Conference action Wednesday afternoon.
 
With the loss, Utica drops to 9-3 overall and 3-2 in the E8. The Cardinals meanwhile improve to 11-1 on the year and remain atop the E8 standings with a perfect 4-0 mark in league play. The Pioneers remain in the hunt for the postseason and will look to bounce back next Wednesday as they travel to Hartwick College.  Game time is 4 p.m.
 
The Cardinals jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first 12:01 of play and tacked on six more scores after that to take an 11-2 lead into halftime.  Fisher kept up the pressure in the second half, outscoring Utica 5-2 over the final 30 minutes. 
 
Freshmen led the way for UC as 
Addison Green (Marcy, NY/Whitesboro) had a team-high two goals and 
Lexi Scaccia (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro) tallied a team-leading two assists.  Classmates 
Emily Rossi (Verona, NY/Vernon-Verona-Sherrill) and 
Jessie Biegel (Ridge, NY/Longwood) also chipped in with one goal each. 
 
Utica goalies 
Hali Vandermeulen (Walden, NY/Valley Central) and 
Claire Frier (Lafayette, NY/Lafayette) combined for 12 saves, while Fisher's Claudia Mocciaro and Morgan Hayes finished with three combined saves.
