Box Score ELMIRA, NY- The Utica College baseball team picked up a big 1-0 win over host Elmira College in Empire 8 Conference play Friday afternoon. Junior
Griffin Baur (New York Mills, NY/New York Mills) tossed a two-hit shutout in seven full innings of work and he did not allow a hit after the second inning to lead Utica to victory.
Game two of the doubleheader was suspended heading into the top of the 11
th inning with the score tied 3-3. The teams will resume play and wrap up game three of the series at a later date.
The Pioneers improve to 11-15 overall and 6-4 in the E8. Utica will return to action Monday with a doubleheader at SUNY Cobleskill. First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m.

A sacrifice fly in the fourth inning by
Matthew Fitzgerald (Clinton, NY/Notre Dame) was the difference-maker as the Pioneers held on for the 1-0 victory over the Soaring Eagles in game one. With
Tim Quinlan (Monroe, CT/Masuck) on third base and one out, Fitzgerald hit a fly ball to centerfield. After tagging up, Quinlan raced home for the go-ahead tally.
That was all the Pioneers needed as junior
Griffin Baur (New York Mills, NY/New York Mills) had another standout performance, allowing just two hits and striking out seven in the complete-game shutout. His counterpart, Nick Cottone allowed four hits in the loss.

Charles McAllister (Baldwinsville, NY/C.W. Baker), and
Ryan Palmer (Verona, NY/VVS) each had hits for Utica.
Utica 3, Elmira 3- Game Two (Incomplete)
The teams traded runs in the middle innings and neither team was able to pull ahead in the eighth or ninth to send the game to extra innings. Utica took a 3-2 lead in the top of the 10
th, but the Soaring Eagles responded with a run in the bottom half of the inning. With the bases loaded and the winning run at third base,
Brendon Sarnowski (Scotia, NY/Scotia-Glenville) picked up a huge strikeout to get out of the inning. Play was suspended heading into the 11
th inning due to rain.
Christian Tiffin (Sherrill, NY/VVS) is 3-for-5 while
Charles McAllister (Baldwinsville, NY/C.W. Baker) is 2-for-3 with a run scored.
Zach McGettigan (Southbury, CT/Pomperaug) and
Matthew Fitzgerald (Clinton, NY/Notre Dame) also have hits.
Jonathan Hardy (Clinton, NY/Clinton) struck out seven in seven innings of work, while
Jake Cavanagh (Plainville, NY/King Phillip Regional) fanned two and did not allow a run in two innings. Sarnowski has two strikeouts in one inning of relief.
