Baseball on the Road for Matchup with Wells

Utica, NY - The Utica College baseball team heads back on the road this Wednesday to take on non-conference foe, Wells College. Game time is scheduled for 4 p.m.
 
Last Time Out: The Pioneers dropped both games of a doubleheader to the Rochester Institute of Technology on the campus of Hamilton College. The team lost the first game of the set by a score of 8-2. Tim Quinlan (Monroe, CT/Masuck) and Charles McAllister (Baldwinsville, NY/C.W. Baker) combined for five hits, with Quinlan also stealing a base and knocking in one RBI. Griffin Baur (New York Mills, NY/New York Mills) took the loss on the mound for UC, striking out five and allowing three earned runs. In game two, the Tigers took down Utica by a 12-4 tally. Maki Medici (Latham, NY/Shaker) led the Pioneers offensively, going 3-for-3 with two RBI's. Thomas Giglio (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro) also made his mark, going 2-for-3 with two runs scored. Jonathan Hardy (Clinton, NY/Clinton) received the losing decision, striking out three in 3.1 innings pitched.
 
Chasing History: With two hits this past weekend against RIT, Tim Quinlan (Monroe, CT/Masuck) sits at 137 hits for his career, which is just four hits away from breaking the program's all-time record for hits in a career.
 
Leading the Empire 8: Quinlan is currently fifth in the Empire 8 with six doubles already this season. Also, sophomore Maki Medici (Latham, NY/Shaker) sits in a tie for fifth on the stolen base leaderboard with a perfect 4-for-4 on stolen base attempts this season. Joe Palmieri (West Islip, NY/West Islip) remains atop the conference with his 0.00 ERA and an opponent batting average of .000 so far with his work on the mound.
 
Marvelous Morris: Junior Sean Morris (Califon, NJ/Voorhee) has been one of the most consistent pitchers for the Pioneers this season, going 2-0 in his two starts on the hill. Morris has chalked up a 7.45 ERA and a 1.52 WHIP with 14 strikeouts in 9.2 innings pitched.
 
Owning the Basepaths: The Pioneers currently are 13-18 on stolen base attempts this season and have only surrendered 10-of-17 stolen base attempts from opponents. Maki Medici (Latham, NY/Shaker) leads the team with four, while Tim Quinlan (Monroe, CT/Masuck), Matthew Leviton (South River, NJ/South River), and Nate Palmer (Verona, NY/VVS) all have three.
 
Scouting Wells: The Express from Wells College come into the contest with a record of 7-11, most recently winning two of three games against Penn State-Berks this past weekend. Jordan VanHerpe leads the team with a .357 batting average and with 12 stolen bases. Tyler Young has hit two homers this year and has a team-best 14 RBI's so far. On the mound, Zach Kemp is 1-2 as starter and has struck out 35 batters.
 
Looking Ahead: The Pioneers will return home this weekend to take on Stevens in an Empire 8 Conference three game series. They will play a doubleheader Saturday, scheduled for a 1 p.m. start. The final game of the series will take place Sunday afternoon at noon.
