UC Set to Host Houghton on Senior Day

UTICA, NY - The Utica College men's lacrosse team will close the books on the 2019 season when they take on Houghton College at home on April 27 at 1 p.m. for Senior Day for the Pioneers.

Last Time Out: The Pioneers cruised to a 20-4 road win over Elmira College on April 20. Dylan Dunham (Elbridge, NY/Jordan Elbridge) led UC with four goals on the afternoon while Andrew Yozzo (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro) and Dakota Allen (Rome, NY/Holland Patent) each added three of their own. Nicholas Horne (Niskayuna, NY/Niskayuna), Tyler Giachinta (Cold Spring, NY/Haldane) and Craig DiSanto (Montebello, NY/Suffern) each had two goals apiece as well. John Hanlon (Coconut Creek, FL/St. John Paul Academy) dished out a team high seven assists in the game while Dylan Allen (Rome, NY/Holland Patent) saved four shots in 30 minutes in the net.

Scoring Outburst: The 20 goals scored by the Pioneers in their win over Elmira is now the team's season high for goals scored in a game. This mark surpassed their previous high of 16 in a win over Keuka College on March 20 and was more goals scored than in their previous three games combined where they totaled 14 goals. The program record for goals scored in a single game was set back on April 1, 2017 as the Pioneers' downed Houghton 31-7.

Handy Hanlon: With seven assists dished out last week, John Hanlon (Coconut Creek, FL/St. John Paul Academy) helped boost his season average to two assists per game which is fourth among those in the Empire 8 Conference. He now has 28 assists this season which is tied for third on the College's all-time single season list. His 75 career points (26, goals, 49 assists) are the most among active Pioneers. His 49 assists rank fifth on the College's all-time list and he needs just one more to become just the sixth player in program-history to reach 50 career assists.

Thank You Seniors

Scouting Houghton: The Highlanders are 4-12 overall on the season and 0-7 in conference play while having lost each of their last six games. On the road this season Houghton owns a 1-7 record. They are one of three teams in the Empire 8 Conference to have allowed over 200 goals this season and as a team they own a -6.8 scoring margin, which is eighth in the E8. They don't put up many shots on goal as a team as they rank eighth in the conference with about 17 shots on goal per game. However, when down a man Houghton has scored the second most goals in the conference in that given situation with three. The bulk of the team's shots put up come from Jonathan Mayer and Nathan Anderson, who rank seventh and eighth in the conference averaging around eight shots per game.

Against Houghton: The Pioneers have 6-0 all-time against the Highlanders. Over the total six games played in series history, UC has outscored Houghton 136-29, including a 31 goal outing in 2017.
