UTICA, NY- The Utica College softball team picked up the sweep over Oswego State in thrilling fashion with a huge comeback win in game two to go home with a 17-13 victory. UC also won the first game of the doubleheader by the score of 4-2. Junior
Sadie Evans (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa) had a monster day at the plate as she was 6-for-7 with four runs scored and three RBIs to pace the Pioneers.
Utica 4, Oswego 2- Game One Final
With the score tied 2-2, Utica plated two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning and then held on in the seventh to come away with the 4-2 win.
Junior
Jamie Miller (Boonville, NY/Adirondack) was 2-for-2 with an RBI and two runs scored, while
Nicole Rice (Williamsville, NY/Williamsville South),
Madison Judge (Albany, NY/Colonie), and
Sadie Evans (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa) were each 2-for-3. Judge also finished with two RBIs, while freshman
Kaitlyn Paul (Albany, NY/Guilderland) also drove in one.
Jacqueline Aronin (Naugatuck, CT/Naugatuck High School) meanwhile finished with a hit of her own as well.
Sophomore
Gabriella Caccamo (Suffern, NY/Suffern) struck out three and allowed just four hits in the complete game victory. Her counterpart, Rebecca Vilchez, finished with four strikeouts in the loss.
Utica 17, Oswego 13- Game Two Final
The Pioneers once again found themselves in an early hole as Oswego jumped out to a 2-0 lead thanks to a two-run shot by Emily Knowlden. Utica responded in the bottom half of the inning with a pair of runs of its own, but the Lakers pulled ahead with eight runs over the third and fourth innings to take a commanding 10-2 lead.
UC did not give up however, as the Pioneers scored three runs in both the fourth and fifth innings to pull within three. The Utica defense made quick work of the Lakers in the sixth inning to swing the momentum in favor of the orange and blue and the bats went to work in the bottom half of the inning, breaking out with nine runs. Oswego threatened in the top of the seventh with a pair of runs, but it was too little, too late as UC capped off the thrilling comeback.
Evans led the way in game two, going 4-for-4 with three runs scored and three RBIs, while freshman
Megan O'Keefe (Albany, NY/Bethlehem Central) also had an impressive showing, going 3-for-4 with three RBIs.
Freshman catcher
Kaitlyn Paul (Albany, NY/Guilderland) went 2-for-3 with a team-high four RBIs, including a clutch two-out single in the fifth that scored two and helped spark the Utica rally.

Nicole Rice (Williamsville, NY/Williamsville South) and
Madison Akots (Wynantskill, NY/Emma Willard School) each had one hit. The Utica pitching staff of
Jane Field (Waterford, NY/Catholic Central),
Alyssa Samborin (Schenectady, NY/Mohonasen),
Rachel Caswell (Utica, NY/Notre Dame), and Gabriella Caccmo combined for seven strikeouts, with Caccamo getting credit for the win.
The Pioneers (8-10) look to carry their momentum into a big Empire 8 Conference weekend as they host Nazareth College on Saturday and St. John Fisher College on Sunday. The first pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m. both days.
