CLEVELAND, OH- The Utica College volleyball team dropped the opening match of the 2019 season Friday evening as it fell to Bethany College 3-0 at the Case Western Tournament in Cleveland, OH.
Junior
Meaghan Romaguera (Stone Ridge, NY/Rondout) led the way for Utica with four kills and seven digs. Freshman
Loryn Wilcox (Canastota, NY/Canastota) had an impressive collegiate debut as she totaled a team-high nine assists and added one service ace. Sophomore
Rosemarie Fesko (Goshen, NY/Central) and
Eleanor Cepiel (West Sand Lake, NY/Academy of Holy Names) combined for five kills on the evening.
Casey Sims (Schenectady, NY/Niskayuna) aided the offense with three assists of her own, while
Taylor Crowley (Washington Township, NJ/Washington Township) chipped in with one.
Defensively, the Pioneers were led by freshman
Alicja Swiechowska (Carmel, NY/Carmel), who had two blocks, while classmates Cepiel and Cameron Boehlert each added one block. Crowley and
Briana Toledo (Ardsley, NY/Ardsley) chipped in with four digs each.
Utica returns to action Saturday as it faces Carnegie Mellon at 10 a.m. followed by Denison University at 12:30 p.m.
