Women's Soccer To Meet North Country Foes This Weekend


Utica N.Y. - The Utica College women's soccer team travels to the North Country for a two-match set this weekend. The Pioneers will meet SUNY Potsdam on Friday for a 4 P.M. kickoff against the Bears. The Pioneers will go on to play Clarkson University at 1 P.M on Saturday.

Last Time Out: The Pioneers topped SUNY Canton in a shutout by a 4-0 score on Friday. Kierra Caissey (Gardner, MA/Gardner) scored twice for the Pioneers. Mikayla Blumenstock (Poland, NY/Poland) added a goal by redirecting a well delivered cross from Lauren MacDonald (Poughquag, NY/Arlington). Jenna Keeman (Douglas, MA/Douglas ) netted the first collegiate goal of her career as the Pioneers cruised to the win. 

Keep On Rolling: Kierra Caissey (Gardner, MA/Gardner) is off to a flying start on the offensive end for Utica. She leads the side in goals, shots and points. Caissey has five goals for ten points early this season. She has totaled sixteen shots. Right behind her on the stat sheet is senior forward Mikayla Blumenstock (Poland, NY/Poland) with three goals, one assist, seven points, and nine shots on goal. 

Wagner's Wall: Senior keeper Allison Wagner (Canandaigua, NY/Canandaigua Academy) has excelled for the Pioneers so far this season. She has not allowed a goal and maintains a perfect save percentage while starting all four matches this season. Wagner has turned away thirty shots in 347:16 this season. She is presently in the longest shutout streak of her career at 372:57 dating back to last year. She was last week's Empire 8 Defensive Player of the Week. 

Empire 8 Standings: Currently Utica is the only Empire 8 team that remains unbeaten at 4-0 in non-conference play. Alfred, Hartwick, and Sage are all 3-1. Following them is Nazareth with a 2-1 record while St. John Fisher trails them with a 1-3 record. Elmira and Houghton are still searching for their first wins of the season.

Scouting The Bears: The Bears are currently 3-2. Potsdam is on a three match winning streak after beating New England College 5-1, and topped SUNY Canton 1-0. Potsdam has netted twenty goals this season while averaging 3.80 goals a game. Junior Lexi Dean has lit up the scoreboard with four goals and seven assists for fifteen points to lead the Bears. 

Scouting The Golden Knights: Clarkson is currently 3-1-1 after suffering their first loss to Hartwick on Sunday 1-0. On Friday, the Golden Knights take on Oswego State before facing Utica on Saturday. Senior, Danielle Martin leads the Golden Knights with three goals, six points and fourteen shots on net. 

Looking Ahead: After the weekend, the Pioneers return home for a matchup against local rival Hamilton. Kickoff will take place at 4 P.M.
