Utica, NY - The Utica College women's tennis team had a strong start to its 2019 campaign, beating the SUNY Delhi Broncos by a score of 8-1 in the first game of the season on Wednesday afternoon.
The Pioneers won five of the six singles matches, with victories from freshmen
Morgan Willis (), Sabrina Pin and
Camryn Sullivan (), as well as junior
Bianca Bockhaus (Shenorock, NY/Somers) and sophomore
Selma Ahmetasevic (Utica, NY/T.R. Proctor).
UC also dominated all three doubles matches as well. Junior
Madeline McIlnay (York, PA/York Suburban) and
Morgan Willis () took first doubles by a score of 8-6. Pin and Sullivan kept pace in second doubles with a 8-3 win, and Brockhaus and Ahmetasevic recorded the most convincing doubles victory with an 8-2 win.
The Pioneers advanced to 1-0 with this win, and they have a two-game road trip this weekend at Houghton on Saturday and Plattsburgh State on Sunday.
