Utica, NY - The Utica College women's volleyball team dropped its first match of the SUNY Oswego Invitational to the host team, 3-0. This comes directly off of the first win of the year for the Pioneers, where they beat Cazenovia 3-2 after being down 2-0.
Oswego took the first set in convincing fashion, topping the pioneers by a score of 25-9. While UC had a slow start, they made things very interesting for the final two sets with the largest lakers margin of victory being five points.
Freshman
Alicja Swiechowska (Carmel, NY/Carmel) continued the stellar start to her UC career, totaling a team-high six kills. Junior
Meaghan Romaguera (Stone Ridge, NY/Rondout) finished right behind Swiechowska with four kills, while freshman
Eleanor Cepiel (West Sand Lake, NY/Academy of Holy Names) added three more.
Junior
Briana Toledo (Ardsley, NY/Ardsley) and Cepiel led the way defensively, notching a team-high five digs. Sophomore
Rosemarie Fesko (Goshen, NY/Central) and Romaguera followed, adding four digs on the night.
The Pioneers will look to get back on track Saturday, as they are slated for matchups against SUNY Canton at 11 a.m. and Clarkson at 3 p.m.
