Women's Tennis Set for Two-Match Weekend

Utica, NY - The Utica College women's tennis team is set for a busy weekend, as they go on the road to face Alfred University on Saturday and return home to host SUNY Oswego on Sunday. Both games are slated for a 1 p.m. start.

Strong Start: The Pioneers currently sit at 1-3, with the first win of the season coming in the team's home opener against SUNY Delhi. UC topped the Broncos by a convincing 8-1 score, winning five of the six singles matches. Freshmen Morgan Willis (), Sabrina Pin and Camryn Sullivan () all notched a win, as well as junior Bianca Bockhaus (Shenorock, NY/Somers) and sophomore Selma Ahmetasevic (Utica, NY/T.R. Proctor).

UC also dominated all three doubles matches as well. Junior Madeline McIlnay (York, PA/York Suburban) and Willis took first doubles by a score of 8-6. Pin and Sullivan kept pace in second doubles with a 8-3 win, and Bockhaus and Ahmetasevic recorded the most convincing doubles victory with an 8-2 win.

UC Female Athlete of the Week: Bianca Bockhaus (Shenorock, NY/Somers) received UC Female Athlete of the Week honors for her stellar performances in the first week of the season. Bockhaus was perfect in the first match against SUNY Delhi, winning fifth singles and third doubles. She picked up right where she left off in the next match against Houghton, recording the lone win for the Pioneers in sixth singles.

Scouting Alfred: The Saxons are currently 1-5 this season, with the sole 2019 win coming in their last game against Hartwick where they won by a score of 7-2. Alfred is coming off an 8-8 season, where they topped Utica in the only matchup between the two teams.

Scouting Oswego: The Lakers have pieced together a 1-5 record thus far as well, and their sole win of the year came in the season opener against Hartwick in a 7-2 decision. Since then, Oswego has dropped its last five games to Houghton, Sage, St. John Fisher, Geneseo and Oneonta, respectively. They have a packed weekend as well, with matches scheduled for the Friday and Saturday leading up to the Sunday matchup in Utica. The Lakers have a very experienced team this year as well, rostering six upperclassmen out of the nine players on the team.

Up Next: The Pioneers head back on the road for a matchup against SUNY Delhi on Wednesday at 3:30 p.m.
