Volleyball Splits Tri-Match with Caz and Buff State

UTICA, NY- The Utica College volleyball team picked up a split in a non-conference tri-match at Clark Gymnasium Saturday.  The Pioneers defeated Cazenovia 3-0 before falling to Buffalo State by a 3-0 score.

The Pioneers jumped out to a quick start and never looked back as they cruised to the straight-set victory.  Junior Meaghan Romaguera (Stone Ridge, NY/Rondout) led the attack with nine kills and she finished second on the squad with two aces.  Eleanor Cepiel (West Sand Lake, NY/Academy of Holy Names) chipped in offensively with six kills and eight assists, while classmate Alicja Swiechowska (Carmel, NY/Carmel) had four kills. Jenna Prewasnicak (Rochester, NY/Churchville-Chili) had a team-high 13 assists and four service aces to aid the Utica attack as well.
 
Defensively, freshman Taylor Crowley (Washington Township, NJ/Washington Township) led the way with 20 digs, while Kurstan Martin (Owego, NY/Tioga) had 16 and Romaguera chipped in with 14.  Sophomore Rosemarie Fesko (Goshen, NY/Central) picked up a team-leading four blocks, while Romaguera and Swiechowska each had one.

Once again, it was Romaguera who led the Utica offense as she totaled six kills in game two, while Fesko and Swiechowska each had three kills to their credit.  Fesko also contributed three aces. Jenna Prewasnicak (Rochester, NY/Churchville-Chili) aided the offense with six assists.
 
Defensively it was Swiechowska who led the team with 19 digs.  Cepiel was second with 15 digs and Romaguera notched 13.  Swiechowska finished with one block as well.
 
The Pioneers return to action Wednesday as they host SUNY Cobleskill.  Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
