UTICA, NY- The Utica College volleyball team dropped a heartbreaker Wednesday evening as it fell to visiting SUNY Cobleskill in non-conference action.
After falling down 2-0, the Pioneers battled back to take the third set 25-17. Then in the fourth set, UC found itself down 23-13, but the Pioneers rallied to score eight of the next nine points to make it 24-22. Cobleskill was able to hang on however to pick up its sixth win of the season.
Junior
Meaghan Romaguera (Stone Ridge, NY/Rondout) led the Utica offense with 11 kills on the evening and she also recorded 18 digs to finish with a double-double. Sophomore
Jenna Prewasnicak (Rochester, NY/Churchville-Chili) aided the offense with 18 assists and freshman
Eleanor Cepiel (West Sand Lake, NY/Academy of Holy Names) chipped in with nine kills and 14 digs of her own.
Freshman
Taylor Crowley (Washington Township, NJ/Washington Township) had a huge night defensively as she finished with a career-high 31 digs. Prewasnicak also contributed 10 digs on the evening.
Rosemarie Fesko (Goshen, NY/Central) led the way at the net as she totaled a tema-best three blocks, while
Monique Fletcher (Waterford, CT/Norwich Free Academy) and
Alicja Swiechowska (Carmel, NY/Carmel) each had two blocks.
The Pioneers return to action Friday as they open up Empire 8 Conference play against St. John Fisher College. Game time is scheduled for 6 p.m.
