UTICA, NY- The Utica College volleyball team ran into some stiff competition Friday evening as it fell to St. John Fisher College 3-0 in Empire 8 Conference action.
 
The Cardinals were on their "A" game from the get go as they cruised to a 25-4 win in set one.  The Pioneers dropped the second set as well, beginning to mount a comeback in set three.  UC brought the game as close as 21-19, but Fisher held serve for the next four points to clinch the win.
 
Freshman 
Eleanor Cepiel (West Sand Lake, NY/Academy of Holy Names) led the Utica attack with seven kills, while classmate 
Brenna Stanton (Chittenango, NY/Chittenango) aided the offense with a team-high nine assists.  
Briana Toledo (Ardsley, NY/Ardsley) also chipped in with seven assists of her own.
 
Defensively, junior 
Meaghan Romaguera (Stone Ridge, NY/Rondout) had a team-best seven digs, while Cepiel and freshman 
Taylor Crowley (Washington Township, NJ/Washington Township) each had six digs.
 
The Pioneers have a quick turnaround as they host Nazareth College Saturday afternoon.  Game time is scheduled for 2 p.m.
