Rochester, NY - The Utica College men's soccer team advanced to 6-2-1 with a big 3-1 win over St. John Fisher on Saturday afternoon in Rochester.
Freshman Jhonny Theze (Bronx, NY/Claremont International) had one of his best performances of the year, posting one goal and two assists. Theze started everything for the Pioneers in the 15th minute, finding the back of the net on a loose ball directly in front of the goal to give the Pioneers an early 1-0 lead.
Fisher scored six minutes later to tie the game at one, and freshman Sean Weaver (Guilderland, NY/Guilderland) responded by recording his first career goal in the 36th minute to give the Pioneers the lead once again, 2-1.
Senior Tucker Marvin (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa) notched the third goal of the game for the Pioneers in the 48th minute, and they would go on to hold this lead for the duration.
Junior Randy Miksch (Lake Villa, IL/Warren Township) continued his stellar play in the net, recording eight saves. The lone goal he gave up in this contest was his first goal allowed in four games.
With this performance Theze solidified himself as the offensive leader for the Pioneers, as he currently leads the team in goals with four and is tied for the team-high in assists with three. Theze currently has 11 points thus far, which is most on the team.
The Pioneers stay on the road for their next matchup against Hamilton College on Wednesday at 4:30 p.m.
