UTICA, NY- Ithaca used two fourth quarter goals, including the game-winner with 3:16 remaining to down Utica College in non-conference field hockey action Wednesday evening. Junior
Sabrina Whitehouse (Greenwich, NY/Greenwich) scored the lone goal for the Pioneers.
Despite holding a 6-0 ledger in penalty corners and outshooting the visitors 5-2 in the first 30 minutes of play, Utica had nothing to show for it as the teams remained scoreless at halftime.
The Pioneers were finally rewarded at 43:07 as Whitehouse fired a backhanded shot that found its way into the back of the net. Senior
Josie Sgarlata (Canastota, NY/Canastota) was credited with an assist on the play. Whitehouse stretches her scoring streak to seven straight games. She has also registered at least one point in nine of her last 10 games and she has totaled 15 points in that span.
Ithaca finally got on the board at 47:52 as Jacqueline Mirabile jammed in a rebound for her first of the year. The Bombers took the lead at 56:44 when Kendall Keil got her own rebound and fired a low shot from the top of the arc that went into the left hand corner of the goal for her first of the season.
That was all Ithaca needed as it was able to run out the clock to hold onto the victory. Sophomore
Megan Chamberlain (Queensbury, NY/Queensbury) made eight saves, while her counterpart, Savanna Lenker had seven save sin the win.
The Pioneers will have over a week off until they return home on Friday, Sept. 13 to host the University of Rochester. Game time is scheduled for 4 p.m.
