UC Swim & Dive Falls Short at Alfred

Alfred, NY - The Utica College swim & dive team fell short of a victory Friday night at Alfred. The men's team dropped the dual meet 118-53 and the women's team also lost by a 115-64 decision.

Sophomore Coleman Barry (Levittown, NY/Division) and freshman Michael Leyburn (Monson, MA/Monson) were the lone swimmers to notch first-place finishes on the men's side. Barry did so in the 500 yard freestyle with a time of 5:40.72. 

Leyburn followed suit in the 100 yard breaststroke, posting a first-place finish time of 1:06.03. Freshman Michael Colocho (Utica, NY/Proctor) finished right behind Leyburn in the same event, coming in second with a time of 1:21.76.

Freshman Lucas DiLego (Oneida, NY/Oneida) rounded out the men's slate with a third-place finish in the 100 yard butterfly with a time of 1:03.09.

Senior diver Matt Patton (Waterford, CT/Waterford) excelled, finishing first on the three-meter board with a score of 196.05. The Waterford, Connecticut native also finished in second on the one-meter board, tabbing a final score of 216.10.

Senior Rebecca Merrill (Chelmsford, MA/Chelmsford) led the way for the women's team, finishing first in the 100 yard-breaststroke with a time of 1:23.06. Senior Courtney Kennedy (Smithtown, NY/Our Lady of Mercy) tabbed a second-place finish in the same event with a time of 1:42.18. Merrill also added a second-place finish in the 100 yard backstroke with a time of 1:13.64. 

Senior Daniela Hannah (Dalton, GA/Northwest Whitfield) finished with a time of 6:14.90 in the 500 yard freestyle to add another second-place finish for her team.

Freshman Sara Kuiken (Valley Falls, NY/Tamarack), senior Emily Czerwonka (Souderton, PA/Souderton Area) and sophomores Kira Seaman (Fort Edward, NY/Hudson Falls) and Emma Ormsby (Potsdam, NY/Potsdam) teamed up to secure a first-place finish in the 200 yard freestyle relay with a time of 2:02.93.

The Pioneers return to action tomorrow afternoon for another road matchup against the Nazareth Golden Flyers at 1 p.m.
