UTICA, NY -- The Utica College men's lacrosse team will travel to Hamilton College on Wednesday as it will participate in the 10th Annual Contineer Cup game at 5 p.m.
Last Time Out: UC was undone by a second half push by SUNY Poly on Sunday afternoon, falling 8-6 to the cross-town rivals and moving to 0-2 on the season... Dylan Dunham (Elbridge, NY/Jordan Elbridge) led the Pioneers in scoring with his second hat trick of the season... All three goals came in the first quarter to help UC to a 4-0 lead... Dale Wagner (Elbridge, NY/Jordan Elbridge) was close behind in scoring with two goals... In the crease, Jozef Korpics (Center Valley, PA/Moravian Academy) made an impressive 14 saves.
Leading the Charge: Utica is atop the Empire 8 Conference in man-down goals with one, which was recorded by James Daniele (Pleasantville, NY/Pleasantville) on Sunday, while sitting second in ground balls with 31... Korpics, who has started in both of UC's games, has compiled 24 saves which is good enough for third in the league. The freshman has one less game played than the goalie ranked in second in saves... Dunham is fourth in the E8 in goals per game, averaging 3.0 thanks to his pair of three-goal outings... He is also fifth in goals with six. Kevin Parisi (Glenwood, NJ/Vernon Township) is tied for second in the conference with six caused turnovers.Â
No Rust Here: Junior Dylan Dunham (Elbridge, NY/Jordan Elbridge) has once against jumped out to a fast start this season as he leads the team with seven points on six goals and one assist... Dunham also started out red hot last year as he totaled 10 points (eight goals, two assists) in his first two games.Â
Control on the Ground: Korpics leads his squad in ground balls (11), while Josh Bennett (Watervliet, NY/Shaker) is second with nine... Among players with more than five faceoffs, Bennett has the best faceoff percentage on the team (.722), going 13-for-18... Sophomore Drew Turck (Lowville, NY/Lowville) meanwhile, is a perfect four-for-four at the "X".Â
Scouting the Continentals: Hamilton is currently 0-1 on the season after falling to nationally ranked No. 2 Amherst, 16-8 in its season-opener... Three Continentals had a two-goal game, led by Henry Hunt and Britt Defeo who also added one assist apiece... In goal, Max Scheidl made 18 saves against the Mammoths. Marc Welch led his team's efforts on defense, picking up seven ground balls, while causing four turnovers.Â
Looking Ahead: The Pioneers will remain on the road on Saturday, traveling to SUNY Potsdam for a non-conference contest... Game time is scheduled for 1 p.m.
