Pioneers Deny Continentals Shutout in Road Loss

CLINTON, NY -- The Utica College men's lacrosse team was unable to top a tough Hamilton College team, falling 19-2 on the road Wednesday evening.

Despite the hosts opening a 6-0 lead early into the contest, UC was able to disrupt the notion of a shutout with a second quarter goal. Dale Wagner (Elbridge, NY/Jordan Elbridge) scored his tally at 10:55, unassisted. Wagner now has five goals on the season.

Hamilton was able to record seven more goals before halftime.

It was James Daniele (Pleasantville, NY/Pleasantville) who collected the Pioneers' second score that game in the third quarter. Daniele's goal at 10:27 was helped along by Trevor Pletl (Deerfield, NY/Whitesboro), for the sophomore's third of the season.

The Continentals were able to net six more goals to close out the contest.

Three goalies split time in the crease for Utica, highlighted by Jozef Korpics (Center Valley, PA/Moravian Academy) team-best 11 saves collected over the course of the first half. Ryan Boshart (Fayetteville, NY/Fayetteville-Manlius) made 10 saves in 16:02 minutes played, while Dylan Allen (Rome, NY/Holland Patent) collected seven during his stint to close out the match up.

Owning one of the Pioneers' two goals, Daniele led the team in shots and shots on-goal with marks of seven and three, respectively. On defense Jack Varian (Stanhope, NJ/Lenape Valley Regional) caused a team-best three turnovers, tying for first in ground balls with three. Drew Turck (Lowville, NY/Lowville) led the squad at the "x", going 6-for-15.

Utica will remain on the road as it travels to Potsdam for a 1 p.m. start time on Saturday.
