Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

UC Men's Lacrosse Falls to Potsdam

Utica, NY - The Utica College men's lacrosse team dropped its Saturday afternoon road matchup to Potsdam by a final score of 11-8.

Sophomore James Daniele (Pleasantville, NY/Pleasantville) was a standout in this contest, as he posted one assist and a team-high two goals. This made Daniele the only Pioneer to tally his name in both statistical categories.

Down 1-0 early on, freshman Gage Fiacco (Massena, NY/Massena) found the back of the net for his first-career goal as a Pioneer on a feed from senior Tom Zegarelli (New Hartford, NY/New Hartford). Sophomore Drew Turck (Lowville, NY/Lowville) notched his first goal of the season a few minutes later with only 29 seconds left to play in the first quarter. Potsdam evened the game at two with a last-second goal before the first quarter came to a close.

Junior Dale Wagner (Elbridge, NY/Jordan Elbridge) and Daniele tabbed goals in the second, but a four-goal second quarter from Potsdam resulted in a 6-4 UC deficit heading into the half.

Utica came out in the second half on a mission, as the team tied the game up at six on back-to-back unassisted goals from junior Jacob Hyer (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro) and senior Zach Duby (Jamesville, NY/Jamesville-Dewitt). Potsdam responded with a goal at the 5:52 mark to go up one, but the Pioneers answered just over a minute later on another Daniele goal to tie the game at seven. Junior Jack O'Shaughnessy (Knoxville, TN/Utica Notre Dame) was credited with the assist.

Potsdam outscored Utica 4-1 for the remainder of the game, with the lone UC goal coming from senior Jared Smaldon (Rome, NY/Rome Free Academy) off a Daniele feed.

With this loss, the Pioneers drop to 0-4 on the season. They will return to action this Wednesday for a home matchup against Marywood at 4 p.m.
