Balanced Attack Guides Utica to Win Over Canton

UTICA, NY- The Utica College women's lacrosse team picked up another convincing victory as it downed visiting SUNY Canton 18-9 in non-conference action Wednesday afternoon.  Nine players found the back of the net for the Pioneers in the win. 
 
The Pioneers improve to 2-0 on the young season.  They have now doubled up their opponents in both games.  Utica returns to action Saturday as they host Wellesley College on Saturday.  Game time is scheduled for 3 p.m.
 
UC wasted little time taking control of the game as the Pioneers took a 4-0 lead in the first eight minutes of action behind a pair of goals by Stephanie Husnay (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro) and one each by Katlyn Scarpinella (South Setauket, NY/Ward Melville) and Lexi Scaccia (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro).  
 
Canton used three goals in the span of a minute to bring the game within one with 20 minutes remaining, but a string of five straight goals for the Pioneers regained control of the game. 
 
The Pioneers went into halftime with a 12-5 lead and outscored the Roos 6-4 in the second stanza to come away with the convincing victory.
 
Fresh off a career-high of seven points on Saturday, Lexi Scaccia (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro) set a new single-game standard of eight points on six goals and two assists.  She also had a team-high nine draw controls, two cause turnovers, and three ground balls.
 
Husnay had a four-point outing as she netted three goals and one assist, while Scarpinella finished with two goals and one helper.  Junior Lauren Wolff (Peabody, MA/Peabody) chipped in with one goal and a team-high three assists to her credit. 
 
Kaitlynn Palmer (Verona, NY/VVS) netted two goals, while Addison Green (Marcy, NY/Whitesboro) had one goal and one assist, and Kristin Krieg (Schenectady, NY/Guilderland), Reva Mussi (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool), and Katherine Migliori (Rome, NY/Rome Free Academy) each had one goal.  Migliori's was the first of her career.  
 
Sophomore Claire Frier (Lafayette, NY/Lafayette) had a breakout day as she finished with a career-high 14 saves in just under 40 minutes of work.
