UTICA, NY- The Utica College women's lacrosse team scored early and often as it downed visiting Wellesley College 16-8 in non-conference action Saturday afternoon.

With the win, the Pioneers improve to 3-0. This marks Utica's best start to a season since 2013 when UC opened the year 4-0. The Pioneers look to carry their momentum into a showdown at Morrisville State on Wednesday. Game time is scheduled for 4 p.m.

Utica jumped out to an 8-0 lead in the first 14:48 of the first half and controlled play the majority of the game as it cruised to the win.

Sophomore
Lexi Scaccia (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro) continued her dominance as she netted a career-high seven goals in the victory. Scaccia also led the Pioneers with six draw controls and five ground balls. Senior
Katlyn Scarpinella (South Setauket, NY/Ward Melville) also had a strong showing as she finished with four goals on the day.Â

Stephanie Husnay (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro) netted two goals and one assist, marking the 100
th point of her career. The 2018 Empire 8 Rookie of the Year also caused a team-leading four turnovers. Junior
Lauren Wolff (Peabody, MA/Peabody) chipped in with two goals, and freshman
Samantha DeCondo (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro) netted her first collegiate goal in the win.

Hali Vandermeulen (Walden, NY/Valley Central) and
Claire Frier (Lafayette, NY/Lafayette) combined for six saves in the win, while Wellesley's Lorna Li finished with nine stops. Izzy Burdick led the Blue with two goals and three assists.Â
