Krecidlo's Big Day Guides Field Hockey to Win Over Naz

UTICA, NY- Senior Madeline Krecidlo (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro) of the Utica College field hockey team tied a school record with four goals to lift Utica to a 5-1 win over Empire 8 Conference foe, Nazareth College on Sunday.

Krecidlo netted her first of the day at 5:48 with a highlight reel goal.  Jeslyn Files (Weedsport, NY/Weedsport) fired the initial shot from the top of the circle that was redirected by Sydney Scaccia (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro).  Then Krecidlo batted the ball in out of mid air for her 10th of the year.

Krecidlo struck again at 13:45 with the eventual game-winner as she buried a feed from Files.  Scaccia extended the Utica lead at 22:20 when she found the back of the net for her eighth of the year, assisted by freshman Mackenzie Mix (Camden, NY/Camden), to head into halftime with a 3-0 lead.

Krecidlo and Scaccia hooked up again at 48:17 as Krecidlo deflected Scaccia's shot from eight yards out.

The Golden Flyers were finally able to get on the board at 53:48 when Lydia Coombs put in her first of the year, on a long shot off a corner.  Caroline Desautels assisted on the tally.

Krecidlo capped off the scoring at 57:09 with her career-high fourth goal of the day.  Mix was credited with her second assist of the day on the final goal.  Krecidlo is one of only four players in UC history to score four goals in a single game.

Senior Megan Chamberlain (Queensbury, NY/Queensbury) made three saves as she picked up her seventh win of the season.  Nazareht's Amanda Chuttey meanwhile turned aside 13 shots in the loss.

With the win, Utica improves to 7-5 overall and 4-1 in the Empire 8.  The Pioneers return to action Wednesday as they travel to SUNY Geneseo.  Game time is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
