Late Goal Lifts Fisher over Women's Soccer

UTICA, NY- St. John Fisher scored the winning goal with less than four minutes remaining in regulation as it topped Utica College 2-1 in Empire 8 women's soccer action Wednesday afternoon.

Despite Utica controlling play the majority of the first half, it was Fisher that struck first at 19:22 as Carli Kovarik netted her team-leading ninth goal of the season with a blast from just outside the box.  Jessica Aldred assisted on the play.

The Pioneers responded in the 28th minute as sophomore Kaela Mochak (Westfield, MA/Westfield) netted her third of the year.  Graduate student Sydney Cook (Waterville, NY/Waterville) played a perfect ball to spring Mochak behind the Fisher back line and in alone.  She then slotted a ball between the keeper's legs for the equalizer.

The score remained the same until the waning minutes of regulation when Emma Osterhoudt found the back of the net for her third of the year.

Sophomore Courtney Connolly (Warwick, NY/Warwick Valley) made 11 saves in the loss, while Halle Tickell finished with five saves for the Cardinals.  Connolly cracked the top ten for career saves in program history.  She is currently ninth all-time with 115 saves to her credit.

The Pioneers (6-5, 2-2 Empire 8) look to rebound Saturday as they travel to Elmira College.  Game time is scheduled for 1 p.m.
