Plenty to Celebrate for UC Field Hockey on Senior Day

UTICA, NY- The Utica College field hockey team had plenty to celebrate Saturday as it topped visiting Houghton College 8-2 in Empire 8 Conference action on Utica's senior day.

For starters, Utica clinched its third straight Empire 8 Tournament berth.  The Pioneers are now 5-2 in E8 play (8-7 overall) with one conference game remaining, a matinee next Saturday at Elmira (2 p.m.).  Additionally, senior goalie Megan Chamberlain (Queensbury, NY/Queensbury) became Utica College's new program record holder with 392 career saves, passing Utica great, Kells Casey '16.  The excitement did not stop as senior Kennedy Guy (Glens Falls, NY/Glens Falls) netted her first collegiate goal in the win.

Graduate student Sabrina Whitehouse (Greenwich, NY/Greenwich), who earlier this season set a new program record with nine points in a single game, continued her hot streak as she scored a game-high three goals and added two assists for an eight-point outing.  Whitehouse is having a career year for the Orange and Blue as she set new career highs in goals (15) and points (35).  She is currently tied with Alaina Stojkovski '15 for sixth all-time in the College's record book with 96 points in her career.  She needs just four more points to become the fourth player in UC history to reach 100 career points.

Graduate student Sydney Scaccia (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro) also had an impressive outing as she finished with two goals and two assists.  Scaccia is having the best year of her career as she has set new personal bests in goals (11), assists (10), and points (32).  Junior Shannon Jedreicich (Deer Park, NY/Half Hollow Hills East) netted two goals, and Mackenzie Mix (Camden, NY/Camden), Jeslyn Files (Weedsport, NY/Weedsport), and Emily Frank (Johnstown, NY/Johnstown) each chipped in with an assist.

Chamberlain finished with four saves, while Madison Tadusz and Sofia Gildemeister combined for 12 saves for Houghton.

The Pioneers return to action Wednesday as they host Skidmore College.  Game time is scheduled for 4 p.m.
