ROCHESTER, NY- The Utica College field hockey team dropped its first conference game of the season Wednesday as it fell to host St. John Fisher College 3-1 in Empire 8 action. All four goals were scored within seven minutes of play in the second half.
The Pioneers drop to 3-1 in the conference (6-5 overall), while Fisher improves to 5-5 on the year and remains unbeaten in the E8 with a 3-0 conference record.
After a scoreless first half, the Cardinals broke the deadlock at 30:56 as Gianna Palma fired a shot from Bre Socker on a corner to put the home team up 1-0. Fisher increase dits lead just three and a half minutes later as Socker put in her eighth of the year.
Utica cut the deficit in half at 35:04 when
Shannon Jedreicich (Deer Park, NY/Half Hollow Hills East) worked a ball down the sideline and placed a ball between the goalie's legs for her seventh of the season. Fisher responded at 37:54 as Socker netted her second of the day.

Megan Chamberlain (Queensbury, NY/Queensbury) finished with nine saves in the loss, while Fisher's Sophia Trozzi made seven saves. The Pioneers return home on Sunday to host Nazareth College. Game time is scheduled for 1 p.m.
