UTICA, NY - The Utica College women's tennis team is set to play its last match of the season when it hosts Hartwick College at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
Last Time Out: The Pioneers were scheduled to play Medaille College on Sunday, October 3 however, the match was postponed because of weather. The last match UC played beforehand was on October 1 which was an 8-1 loss to Alfred University on the road.
Morgan Willis (Queensbury, NY/Queensbury) claimed the only singles win for Utica, 7-6 and 6-4 at second singles.
Season Review: UC will enter its final match 3-5 overall and 1-4 in conference play. With the loss to Alfred last week, the Pioneers were mathematically eliminated from conference tournament contention.
Morgan Willis (Queensbury, NY/Queensbury) leads the team with a 6-3 singles record this season while
Haley Dekin (Castorland, NY/Lowville Academy) is also currently above .500 with a 5-4 mark in singles.
Ellen Lyga (New Hartford, NY/Notre Dame) and
Victoria Vo (Utica, NY/Proctor) have each picked up three wins this season.
Paetra Heeren (Warwick, NY/Warwick Valley) and
Bianca Bockhaus (Shenorock, NY/Somers) each have a win to their names as well. In doubles, Vo and Dekin are the only pair with multiple wins for UC as the two have gone 2-3 when paired together.
About Hartwick: The Hawks are 7-2 overall on the season and 4-1 in Empire 8 play which secured the team a spot in the conference tournament. Colleen Marsh leads the team with a 7-2 record in singles play while the duo of Jade Killikelly and Victoria Wilson own a 7-2 doubles record.
Meeting History: Although Utica is 3-15 all-time against Hartwick, the Pioneers have taken the momentum as of late. UC has won each of the last three matches against the Hawks; 6-3 in 2019, 9-0 on March 20, 2021 and 8-1 in last season's Empire 8 Conference Tournament.
