UTICA, NY - Originally set to travel to Rochester on Saturday, the Utica College men's and women's swim & dive teams will now host Roberts Wesleyan College and Wells College at noon on Saturday for its second home meet of the season.
Last Time Out: The teams hosted Cazenovia, SUNY Cobleskill and SUNY Delhi at the Utica College Pool on Friday, November 5 in what was the first home meet of the season for both the men and women. The women's team went a perfect 3-0 on the night with wins of 143-45 over SUNY Cobleskill, 138-71 over Cazenovia and 138-28 over SUNY Delhi. The men went 2-1 with wins of 54-0 over Cazenovia, 54-30 over SUNY Delhi while the single blemish was a 73-49 loss to SUNY Cobleskill.
Simmons' Big Night: Bailey Simmons won her first individual events of the season in style as the sophomore took home three different individual events. Among her wins was the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 2:15.12 and the 50-yard butterfly, clocking in at 33.14.
Colocho Coming Through: Michael Colocho (Utica, NY/Proctor) aided the team's wins last meet with three individual wins of his own in what were his first of the season. The Utica native finished first in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 2:42.85, the 100-yard breaststroke (1:17.62) and the 50-yard breaststroke (35.83).
The Jackson Two: Just like his teammate Colocho,
Jackson Sorbello (Rome, NY/RFA) secured his first individual wins of the season. The Empire 8 preseason swimmer to watch for UC finished first in the 50-yard freestyle (24.38) as well as the 50-yard backstroke (30.58). He came up just shy of a trifecta himself after placing second in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 52.53, a fraction of a second behind first place.
About Roberts Wesleyan: The Robert Wesleyan men's team enters the weekend 3-1 overall while the women's team owns a 3-2 mark with both teams having already defeated Utica on October 30. The men's team fell to Le Moyne College on November 6, 201-65, and the women's team was also defeated by Le Moyne on the same day, 205-64. Collin Webb finished first in the 100-yard backstroke while also placing second in the 50-yard free. Caleb Larchar was the other winner on the men's team, taking first place in the 100-yard butterfly. Three different swimmers on the women's team also took home wins; Paige Siebold was the winner of the 100-yard backstroke, Daniela Rodriguez took the 200-yard backstroke and Katelyn Rakiey was first in the 100-yard butterfly.
A Look at Wells: Both the men's and women's teams secured their first wins last weekend at Medaille College. The women's team claimed a 64-23 victory while the men came away 39-23 winners. Both teams also competed at the Cortland Relays and at Alfred State against Franciscan University (OH) earlier this season.
Up Next: The teams will have nearly two weeks off before their next meet at 6 p.m. on Friday, December 3 at Cazenovia College.
