Women's Hockey Bounces Back with Big Win Over Wilkes

WILKES-BARRE, PA- The Utica College women's hockey team got back on track Friday evening as it cruised to a lopsided 9-1 victory over host Wilkes University in United Collegiate Hockey Conference action. Sophomore Maggie Rylott (Cobourg, Ontario/West Northumberland) led the way with a career-high six points for the Pioneers.

Utica took a commanding 4-1 lead in the first period thanks to three goals in a span of 1:49. UC added three more goals in the second stanza and capped off the evening with two goals in the third period.

Rylott finished with two goals and four assists on the evening.  The last Utica player to score six points in a game was All-American Megan Myers, who also had two goals and four assists in a 9-0 win over Buffalo State on Feb. 18, 2012.

10 different players registered at least one point on the day.  Apart from Rylott, freshman Cortney Staniszewski (Buffalo, NY/Niagara Jr. Purple Eagles) finished with five points (two goals, three assists) including her first collegiate goal, while sophomore Erica Sloan (Potsdam, NY/St. Lawrence Steel) had four points on the evening (one goal, three assists).  Senior Rebecca Brown (Steamboat Springs, CO/Norwich University) found the back of the net for her first goal of the season and sophomore transfer Erica Sheaffer (New Hartford, NY/Wilkes University) scored her first goal as a Pioneer, coincidentally coming against her former team.

Junior Georgiana Santullo (Woburn, MA/Boston Shamrocks/Woburn High School) chipped in with one goal and one assist, while freshman Carly Stefanini (Framingham, MA/Brooks School) netted her team-leading sixth goal of the year.  Holly Silva (Boston, MA/Worcester Academy), Morgan Leib (Farmington Hills, MI/Little Caesars), and Lexi Stanisewski (Lawrence, MA/Boston Shamrocks) each had one assist in the win.

Junior Savannah Gutierrez (Huntington Beach, CA/Anaheim Lady Ducks) made 17 saves to pick up her first win of the season, while Addy Olson finished with 37 saves for the Colonels.

Utica and Wilkes will meet on Saturday in Utica to wrap up the series.  Game time is scheduled for 5 pm. At the Adirondack Bank Center.
