Women's Soccer Drops Home Opener to Naz

UTICA, NY- The Utica College women's soccer team fell to visiting Nazareth College 4-1 in Empire 8 Conference action Sunday afternoon.  Senior Kierra Caissey (Gardner, MA/Gardner) scored the lone goal for Utica.

Nazareth scored two goals in the first 12 minutes of play before the Pioneers were able to settle down into a rhythm.

Utica was able to cut the deficit to one in the 43rd minute when Caissey redirected a centering feed in the box for her first of the year.  The Pioneers were awarded a free kick near the sideline from 35 yards out.  Freshman Kaela Mochak (Westfield, MA/Westfield) sent the ball into the box, where junior Hillaria Hernandez (Carmel, NY/Kennedy Catholic) headed it towards goal where Caissey got a piece of it right in front of the Naz keeper to sneak the ball over the goal line.

The Golden Flyers used two goals in the second half to put the game away.  Kristen Prohaska finished with a goal and two assists to lead the way for Naz.

Freshman Courtney Connolly (Warwick, NY/Warwick Valley) made 19 saves in net for the Pioneers, marking the most saves made in a game by a freshman in program history.

The Pioneers (1-2, 1-2 Empire 8) will have a full week off before returning to action next Sunday as they host Elmira College.  Game time is scheduled for 1 p.m.
