UTICA, NY- The Utica College women's soccer team cruised to a 6-0 win over visiting Elmira College in a designated non-conference game Sunday afternoon. Senior
Kierra Caissey (Gardner, MA/Gardner) led the way with two goals for the Pioneers.
Utica opened the scoring just 38 seconds in as junior transfer
Hillaria Hernandez (Carmel, NY/Kennedy Catholic) netted her first goal in a Pioneer uniform off a feed from
Jacinta Kaminski (Holland Patent, NY/Holland Patent). Kaminski played a great ball to Hernandez on the right side of the box. Hernandez fired a shot off her right foot that bounced off the left post and in.
UC scored another tally just over three minutes later as senior
Kierra Caissey (Gardner, MA/Gardner) won a battle for a loose ball from 25 yards out and fired a shot into the top right corner for her second of the year.
Haley Harrington (Munnsville, NY/Stockbridge Valley) netted her first of the year in the 27
th minute off an assist by Hernandez and Caissey tacked on her second of the day with 3:41 remaining in the half.
The Pioneers used goals by
Kaela Mochak (Westfield, MA/Westfield) and
Hope Millets (Whitehall, PA/Whitehall) in the second half to seal the victory. Both Mochak and Millets' tallies were their first collegiate goals.
Junior
Emily Hill (Watertown, CT/Watertown) made three saves in the shutout, while Cassidy Buchman finished with five saves for the Soaring Eagles.
Utica (2-2, 1-2 Empire 8) will return to action Friday as it travels to Houghton College. Game time is scheduled for 5 p.m.
