Pioneers Power Past Spartans

UTICA, NY- The Utica College women's lacrosse team used goals from 14 different players to down visiting Castleton University 22-3 in non-conference action Monday evening.
 
The win marks Utica's first on the young season.  The Pioneers pick up some much-needed momentum heading into their Empire 8 Conference opener Wednesday at Russell Sage College.  Game time is scheduled for 5 p.m.
 
The Pioneers wasted little time getting things going as they jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the first 5:15 of play.  UC was firing on all cylinders as it netted nine more tallies before the half to take a 15-2 lead after the first 30 minutes.  The home team was not finished as it tacked on seven more scores in the second stanza to earn the lopsided victory.
 
Senior Lauren Wolff (Peabody, MA/Peabody) and sophomore Samantha DeCondo (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro) led the way with three goals and one assist each.  Junior Katherine Migliori (Rome, NY/Rome Free Academy) had a career day as she scored her first of the year and dished out two assists. Freshman Alyssa Drell (Mastic, NY/William Floyd) (two goals, one assist) also finished with three points on the night.
 
Junior Lexi Scaccia (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro) extended her goal-scoring streak to eight games as she notched two goals, while Carly Fine (Bayside, NY/Bayside) and Mackenzie Keane (Newfoundland, NJ/West Milford) also chipped in with two goals. Stephanie Husnay (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro) had one goal and one assist and Addison Green (Marcy, NY/Whitesboro)e, Lila Allison (Loudonville, NY/Shaker), Kristin Krieg (Schenectady, NY/Guilderland), Emily Rossi (Verona, NY/Vernon-Verona-Sherrill), Tracy Moreno (Cedar Grove, NJ/Cedar Grove), and Katie Crofoot (Montgomery, NY/Valley Central) had one goal apiece.
 
Maddie Behan (Syracuse, NY/Jamesville Dewitt), Alyssa Pisano (Hopewell Junction, NY/Arlington), and Sydney Scaccia (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro) each dished out one assist in the win. Claire Frier (Lafayette, NY/Lafayette), Shaylynn Palmer (Kirkville, NY/East Syracuse Minoa), and Savanna Thomas (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro) all saw action in net for Utica.
