UTICA, NY- The Utica College men's soccer team ran out of time as it fell to visiting Russell Sage College 2-1 in an Empire 8 Conference matchup Monday afternoon.
Â
After nearly 40 minutes of scoreless action, Sage finally broke the deadlock at 39:13 when Jeaneste Pierre capitalized on a failed clearing attempt by Utica with a quick shot from the top of the box that went off the post and in for his first of the year.
Â
Pierre added another tally in the 74
th minute as he connected with Nathan Ficht off a free kick by Sergio Ventura.
Â
Utica got on the board in the 82
nd minute when
Sory Konate (Harlem, NY/Forsyth Satellite Academy) fired in a shot that just barely crossed the line before a Sage defender kicked it out. Konate's score was assisted by
Kevin Griffith (Sauquoit, NY) and
Mohamadou Diallo (Bronx, NY/International Community).
Â
Despite sustained pressure by the home team, Utica was not able to net the equalizer. It was not without chances as the Pioneers had three balls cleared off the goal line by Sage players during the game.
Â
Utica drops to 1-4 on the season (1-3 Empire 8). All four of the Pioneers' loses this year have been by just one goal. UC will have nearly two weeks off before wrapping up the regular season on April 11 at Nazareth College. Game time is scheduled for 1 p.m.
