Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Men's Basketball Ends Regular Season With a Win, Eyes Now on Nazareth

Utica, NY - In what was the final game of the regular season with seeding implications on the line, the Utica College men's basketball team never trailed once in its 84-53 win over Elmira College on Thursday night.

UC played balanced on offense as the team put up 38 points in the paint, about 25 percent of those points came from Kimedrick Murphy's (Hudson, NY/Hudson) 10 points. Murphy also collected seven rebounds and two blocks on the night.

Kobe Lufkin (Argyle, NY/Argyle) led the Pioneers with 16 points on 5-for-10 shooting from the field as well as going 3-for-5 from beyond the arc. Chris Green (White Plains, NY/Alexander Hamilton) contributed 12 points while Avery Coston (Kerhonkson, NY/Rondout Valley) finished with a 10 point, 11 rebound double-double. As a team Utica shot 49 percent from the field and 47 percent from three on the game.

Hunter Remley (Cranford, NJ/Cranford) was honored before the game as the team's only senior. He finished his night with seven points and nine rebounds.

UC (8-2, 7-2 E8) held Elmira to just 32.3 percent shooting from the field, including 29 percent in the first half, as the Eagles never found their rhythm. While Elmira came out firing against the Pioneers on Monday, UC ensured another comeback win would not be necessary tonight as the Eagles were held to just 22 first half points while Utica put up 46 in the game's first 20 minutes.

The Pioneers now await the end of the Nazareth and St. John Fisher match up. If Fisher wins the Pioneers will secure the two seed in the E8 tournament which also comes with a first round bye. If Nazareth wins, UC will host a quarterfinal game as the three seed.
