Box Score Cobleskill, NY - The Utica College baseball team went on the road and suffered a 13-4 loss to the SUNY Cobleskill Tigers.
While the offense was held silent in the away half of the 1st inning,
Travis Grogan (Middletown, NY/Middletown) took the hill for UC and pitched a clean first inning as the score remained tied at zero entering the 2nd. The Pioneers offense fell silent again before the Tigers pounced in the home half.
Cobleskill, thanks in part to a trio of base hits, pushed across three runs in the 2nd inning before adding a pair of runs in the 3rd inning to take a 5-0 lead into the 4th.
UC responded back with two runs in the 4th inning.
Matthew Fitzgerald (Clinton, NY/Notre Dame) walked to lead off the inning and
John Longeretta (Oriskany, NY/Oriskany) singled following Fitzerlads' at bat as both were eventually driven in. The Tigers, however, added two of their own in the home half to extend its lead to 7-2.
The Pioneers scored two more runs in the 6th inning. Longeretta and
Michael Muentener (Fairview, NJ/Cliff Side Park) each hit one out singles before both touched home to close the Tigers' lead to 7-4.
However, Utica's offense was held silent over the final three innings while the Tigers added six more runs between the 7th and 8th innings as they held on to secure the 13-4 win.
Up next the Pioneers will return home to take on conference opponent Keuka College in a Saturday doubleheader. The first game of the series is set to start at 1 p.m.
