Cross Country Has Solid Day at VT Tech

RANDOLPH JUNCTION, VT - The Utica College cross country teams produced solid results on Saturday as they competed at the Vermont Tech Maple Syrup Challenge in Randolph Junction, Vermont. The Utica women placed 2nd with a total of 73 points, and the Pioneer men were fourth with 118 points.

The men's event was contested at the eight kilometer distance, while the women traversed five kilometers.

Jade Dening (Remsen, NY/Remsen) highlighted the women's team performance as she ran to an eighth place finish in a time of 20:46 on a tough five-kilometer course. Kristin Daino (Johnson City, NY/Maine-Endwell) was twelfth with a clocking of 22:06. Sarah Sharpe (New York Mills, NY/New York Mills) was fifteenth in 23:20, Laura Levi (Inlet, NY/Town of Webb) was seventeenth in 23:45, and Brieann Lohmann (West Winfield, NY/Mount Markham) rounded out the Utica scorers with a 26:44 to place in 21st position. 

Newcomer Michael Roberts led UC's men to the line with an eighth place finish in 29:03. He was followed by a 13th place finish for Hayden Lohmann in 31:29. Freshman Jaevon Ardrey was 20th in 32:29, Tristan Vargo placed in 35th with a clock of 35:29, and Andrew Weider was Utica's fifth scorer as he debuted in collegiate cross country with a time of 38:27. 

The Pioneers will enjoy a weekend off before getting back to business on September 25th at St. Lawrence.
