Alfred, NY - Following an extra time conference loss to Houghton College on Saturday, the Utica College men's soccer team bounced back with a 3-1 road win over Alfred St.
The Pioneers broke through early in the game as
Cody Baker-Green (Warwick, NY/Warwick Valley) scored his first goal of the season in the 14th minute. Shortly after in the 23rd minute,
Daniel Varsames (Gansevoort, NY/Saratoga Springs) netted his first goal of the season off of the Baker-Green assist making it a 2-0 game in favor of Utica.
The Pioneers took a controlling 3-0 lead in the 55th minute with a goal off of a corner kick.. Alfred St. was able to find the board in the 77th minute however, that was all for its comeback attempt as UC took the Sunday afternoon meeting, 3-1.
Each of Utica's three goals in the contest came off of corner kicks. In goal,
Foti Xidias (Carteret, NJ/Carteret) recorded six saves on 10 shots, seven on goal, for the Pioneers. As a team, Utica attempted 13 shots, six on goal, with Baker-Green and
Sory Konate (Harlem, NY/Forsyth Satellite Academy) leading the team with three each.
UC (3-3-1) returns home on Wednesday, September 22 at 4 p.m. when SUNY Poly makes the short trip across town to Charles A. Gaetano Stadium. This will be the first of three consecutive home games for the Pioneers.
